I need money

May 7, 2009 at 3:56 pm (Uncategorized) (, , , , , , , )

I am trying to think of some different ways I can make money. I got laid off from my job a few months back and now it’s time to start looking for work…or at least to find ways to make money. I’ve thought about starting a business with wood crafts. It’s always just been a hobby of mine. But if I could make money selling some of my pieces that would be sweet. I’ve collected a good amount of woodworking supplies over the years, so I pretty much have everything I need. I just need to get a marketing idea on how to sell these things. Ebay is becoming a money pit as far as I’m concerned. I don’t know of anyone who is really making money on there anymore. Unless you are a big business or you are selling off your Star Wars or Narnia action figures. I’m taking some time to think this through before I go apply for another warehouse job.

A day at work

January 22, 2009 at 4:46 am (Uncategorized) (, , , , )

Works been dragging lately. Business has been slow and I’ve had a headache for 2 days straight. I think it’s partly because a coworker of mine keeps playing heavy metal music every freakin’ day! I’m so sick of it. I’ve never liked heavy metal, now I hate it. He keeps talking about getting cheap AC/DC tickets. I’m all for getting cheap concert tickets but not for AC/DC. Nothing against AC/DC but some bands just don’t know when to retire. If you don’t have fresh material than give it up! Some old bands keep pumping out good stuff. A buddy of mine and I going to a Prentenders concert coming up. Curious too see what new material they will perform live. They were great back in the early 80’s.

Gifts for the male set

December 27, 2008 at 3:03 pm (Uncategorized) (, , , , , , )

So many of my friends are married now and having babys. I’ve been trying to find ways to stay connected with what’s going on in their lives even though I’m not where they’re at. So what do you give a dude who just had a baby – cigars!cigars

I found some of the best cigars at this shop. But where to smoke them is the question. You can’t just go over to their house and start smoking cigars. You wouldn’t be invited back I guarantee. The best place to smoke some vintage cigars in my view would be a an NBA game. Just ask Jack Nicholson, the coolest cat around. So find some discount sports tickets and look for the cheap nba tickets. It’s the best way to reconnect and help your buddies overcome the shock of fatherhood.

I’m fascinated with the Post-Punk Legacy

December 2, 2008 at 4:04 pm (Uncategorized) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Ian CurtisI often read on the new generation of post-punk artists and its interesting to see how they emulate or are inspired to capture the essence of the pioneer post-punk legends. Post-Punk Bands from the late 70’s like The Cure and Joy Division didn’t have the high-tech resources that this young generation has, but truly having to be innovative in creating their dark synthesized, layered sounds. I recently watched the movie Control, about the tortured and haunted lead singer of the British post-punk band Joy Division, Ian Curtis. Released in 2007 this DVD is based on his wife’s memoir, Ian committed suicide during Joy Division’s rise to fame. The portrayal of Ian Curtis flailing about on stage and then overcome by an epileptic seizure was poignant of what his inner turmoil must have been. I liked the scene where the band is in the studio creating different percussion sounds with things like an aerosol can sprayed over the mic. His legend lives on even after his band members went on to form the band New Order. It is remarkable how many kids today follow the emo, melancholy persona of the man, Ian. You go out to any goth club and as soon as they play “Love Will Tear Us Apart”, the vampire and goth kids in their gothic clothing, lurking in the corners come alive and fill the dance floor. Joy Division put out only 2 albums, Unknown Pleasures and Closer. Their first major tour was cut short by Ian’s death. But their songs are covered all over the world and by respected artists like Nine Inch Nails. Ian Curtis lives on and is immortalized in rock memorabilia, Joy Division Shirts, movies, and in the evolution of the sprouting crop of mod-punk, new wave artists like She Wants Revenge and The Bravery carrying the torch.

Story Formed

July 19, 2008 at 9:06 pm (Uncategorized) (, , , , , , , , , , , , )

We just started a Discipleship training called the Story Formed Life, and I am very excited.  The idea behind it is that as Christians in America, we have done a good job of fulfilling the preaching part of the Great Commission, but have done a very poor job in ‘teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded.’  This is where discipleship comes in.  What is more powerful – a thousand lukewarm Christians or a hundred Disciples of Christ?  I would say that 10 Disciples are more powerful than any amount of lukewarm anything.  This is the idea, that through strict training, we can create disciples.

As someone who has been working with youth for the last 9 years, it’s really exciting for me to start sharing this training with the adults of our community.  Right now, mostly Young Life leaders are coming, but about 10 of them have brought their parents.  We have a wide variety of people coming to the group.  It’s funny to watch kids who still get excited about Ben 10 party supplies interact with guys who sell wooden dowels or do this for a living.  But, isn’t that the Church?  A collection of several unique body parts who come together with Christ as the head.  This is why I am so excited about this training, and the power it can have on building the church in our community.  I pray for a blessing on it.

Is Heath Ledger Dead?

July 19, 2008 at 8:39 pm (Uncategorized) (, , , , , , , , , , , )

I mean come on, you have to ask this question after the latest Batman release right? What’s a summer blockbuster without a little conspiracy theory

**Spoiler Alert**

Sad to say, Heath Ledger surely died of a prescription overdose, but his latest performance has left fans wanting more. I went and saw the midnight showing of The Dark Knight, and I was not disappointed. While most every actor turned in a good performance, it was ledger who clearly stole the show. His psychotic portrayal of Batman’s most classic villain was astonishing.

There were so many aspects of the part that made it great. The licking of the lips was strangely irresistible. The desire to tell everyone how he received his scars (with a different story every time) was priceless. My personal favorite was him walking away from the hospital, donned in some type of dickies medical scrubs, cursing his remote control for not blowing up the building properly. The walk he had in that skirt was incredible!

The movie has drawn out all kinds of fans, old and new, and is setting record performances at the box office. When I went on Thursday night, all kinds of people were dressed as Batman characters and other dark attire. I saw plenty of gothic costumes and other apparel to fit the part. Many of my friends even dressed up, and had a good time with it.

We are all hoping that like Gordon, somehow, Heath can come back from the dead as the Joker for an encore performance. Hopefully, the awards of the year will reflect his great performance. If only his death was not so serious…

What to get Mom

May 9, 2008 at 7:17 pm (Uncategorized) (, , , , , , )

What should you get mom for mother’s day? Well, I have a few ideas. I don’t think she would go crazy over Naruto headbands, so let me help you out a bit. As a kid, it was easy. You didn’t have any money and so you couldn’t buy her anything. Basically, you could draw anything on a piece of paper, and she’d love it – no matter how much a piece of crap it was.

Now, you are grown up, and you can buy your mom something nice, so do it. Here are a few of my favorite shops. If you want to get her some nice makeup, you can shop for Alexandra de Markoff, Dermablend or Nvey Eco at this store. You can also get some nice homemade soaps there as well. Mom’s like to smell nice and look good, so make sure she gets what she wants.

Just make sure you get her something. When you forget, I can guarantee that it hurts her, no matter what she says.

Doctor’s Appointment

April 30, 2008 at 7:42 pm (Uncategorized) (, , , , , , , , , )

Yesterday was kind of a disruptive day because I had a doctor’s appointment. It was well overdue. I don’t go to the doctor much, but I had to this year because my allergies were absolutely destroying me. I had extremely itchy eyes and and itchy nose. I would wake up in the morning and my eyes would be crusted over. It was sick. So, I finally decided to go into the doctor. I don’t have a lot of experience booking doctor appointments. I don’t have a standard family doctor. So, I just checked my providers online and found an allergist specialist. It ended up being in the local healthplex, which actually was a branch of our Children’s hospital.

When I walked in, I saw kids running around with Ben 10 action figures, and it looked like they were having a party for the girls. I made it past them and up to my office, greeted by nurse in her lovely medical scrubs. The first thing I had to do was blow in this tube to check my lungs. She made me do it like three times. When the doctor finally came in, she was very nice and helpful. It didn’t take too long to diagnose me with tree pollen, seasonal allergies. She prescribed me some meds, gave me some samples and I was on my way. Hopefully, these meds work well for this year and next year, I will be able to control them better.

Getting some Memory Foam

January 10, 2008 at 5:14 pm (Uncategorized) (, , , , , , )

I’m doing some shopping for a new mattress because my back has been KILLING me.  I can’t take it any longer.  I think I’m getting a really good deal from a mattress company on ebay, but I hope I’m not getting screwed with a bad quality of mattress.

I’ve been having pain everywhere lately.  I’ve been fighting with Plantar Fasciitis, doing all sorts of exercises.  I was even looking into getting a walk in shower.  What the heck?  I’m in my mid-20’s and I’m feeling like an old man.  Well, hopefully this mattress will help out.  I have not been sleeping well.   At least I’m saving like $2,000 by not buying the ones at the store.
